چکیده

It is well known that there are two kinds of Salmonella organisms in respect of flagellar antigens; the one is monophasic and the other is diphasic. The distinction is based upon whether organisms form colonies showing uniform behavior in respect of flagellar agglutinability or dissociating into two kinds of colonies different from each other. Further consideration reveals the existence of two apparently different antigenic patterns in flagella of Salmonella organisms, namely flagella with only one antigenic factor, for example S. paratyphi A has only one flagellar antigen a in its first phase, and the flagella, as the second type, with more than one antigenic factor, as for example g, m in S. enteritidis or e, n, x ... in S. abortus equi. In the latter case, the factors never dissociate into different colonial types and are always found in coexistance, therefore it is to be considered that each bacterial body is attached with the flagella containing every antigenic factor. Though it is evidenced that the H-antigen represents flagellar substances, there is no direct answer to the question as to whether the flagella of each bacterial body are uniform in respect of antigenic patterns, i. e. a single flagellum contains each of the antigenic factors altogether or there are several kinds of flagella differing from each other in respect of antigenic factors contained in them. The present investigation has been conducted to make this question clear utilizing purified flagellar suspension.

Antigenic and immunogenic evaluation of Helicobacter pylori FlaA epitopes

Objective(s): Helicobacter pyloriare among most common human pathogens affecting at least half of the world’s population. Mobility is one of the important primary factors in bacterial colonization and invasion. The purpose of this research is cloning, expression, and purification of FlaA protein specific epitopes in order to evaluate their antigenicity and immunogenicity. Materials and Methods:...

Isolation of Herpetosiphon giganteus and Ultrastructure Analysis by Electron Microscopy

Herpetosiphon giganteus is a filamentous gliding bacterium. Gliding motility is the movement of the cells over surfaces without the aid of flagella. The mechanism responsible for bacterial gliding motility has not been known and there are only a few data on Herpetosiphon giganteus. The aim of this study was to observe the ultrastructure and negative staining of isolated strains of Herpetosiphon...

Flagellar Agglutinins

1. Certain bacilli within one strain may lose their flagella and become non-motile. 2. The change in serological behavior associated with the change in motility indicates that the flagella possess an individual antigenic property. 3. Flagella can be separated from the bodies of the bacilli. 4. A strictly flagellar antiserum can be produced by the injection of a flagellar suspension. 5. This dir...

Antigenicity of lateral flagella of Vibrio parahaemolyticus: existence of two distinct antigenic determinants in a flagellum.

Cells of Vibrio parahaemolyticus treated with Formalin agglutinated with anti-lateral flagella antiserum. On the basis of agglutination tests, antigens of lateral flagella were divided into three groups. HL1, HL2, and HL3. However, in gel diffusion tests, flagellins prepared from strains belonging to different groups showed a common antigenicity. It is assumed that these results are due to the ...
